Perspex Signs: Everything You Need to Know

by Todd West

Perspex is the brand name of a range of high-quality acrylic sheets. This material can be used to manufacture high-quality signage. Below is a guide to everything you need to know about Perspex signs.

What is acrylic and how is it manufactured?

Acrylic is a form of polymer plastic. It is produced using a mould which consists of two plates of glass separated by a flexible rubber spacer which allows the mould to expand and contract during the process of polymerization.

Once the mould is prepared, liquid methyl methacrylate monomer is added along with a catalyst which will trigger the chemical process. Heat is then added to speed up the process. The mould is then left in place for a set number of hours until the acrylic has cured and set. This length of time will depend on the thickness of the sheet being produced. Once the acrylic sheet has set, it can be turned into a sign.

What are the benefits of acrylic signage?

Durability

Acrylic is a highly durable material which can withstand whatever you can throw at it. This is especially useful if you plan to mount a Perspex sign on the exterior of your building where it will be exposed to harsh weather conditions. Whereas traditional metal and wooden signs are always at risk of rust or rot, acrylic is completely resistant to these forms of corrosion.

Versatility

Perspex sheets can be cut and shaped in an almost infinite number ways. This means that if you wish to reproduce complex company logos or intricate designs into your signage, this can be easily achieved. Further to this, acrylic is also available in almost any colour in the spectrum. The material also comes in a range of finishes such as gloss, matt, fluorescent and silk. Perspex is also available, so it appears clear, opaque or even frosted. This wide range of options means that you are certain to find a sign which is right for you.

How is acrylic signage engraved?

Perspex signage can be engraved in a number ways depending on the type of style and finish that is desired. The information you wish the sign to display can be engraved into the surface of the plastic, or it can be printed directly onto the acrylic using a solvent.

If you would like further information or advice about the manufacture and design of Perspex signage, you should contact a company which is a specialist in this field.

About Me

Operating a Processing and Manufacturing Facility

Hello, my name is Freddie. While I do not actually work in the processing or manufacturing sector, I do have a lot of knowledge about it. I gained this knowledge during one long summer when I helped my cousin who owns a processing and manufacturing facility located in Sydney, Australia. On my first day, I really didn't have a clue what he produced or how the facility worked. However, as the weeks passed and I got to know everyone in the different departments, my understanding grew. I decided to start this blog so I could share my knowledge with others.
